RV Pelagia left Reykjavik at 1pm this afternoon. First we needed to get the essentials out of the way, safety briefing and fire drill. As you can see everybody managed to locate their life jacket. It would be better though if today remains the only time we need them. The waters are not very warm where we’re going, possible as cold as -2 degrees C near Greenland. The life jacket keeps you afloat but not very warm. Luckily we also have immersion suits and life raft. But still…. I’d rather not test them.

The whales don’t seem to care about the cold. We saw several as we came out of port. There were too quick for our cameras but we might get another chance later on.
